Question:  Who was the “first Hebrew”?

Abraham – Not His Own Grandfather

(Response to the BAR article by Anson Rainey, INSIDE OUTSIDE, Where Did The Early Israelites Come From?)

Many other readers may have noticed that Anson stated Abram was “the first Hebrew” in his article’s third paragraph.  Since the word “Hebrew” is derived from one of Abram’s forebears, EBER, we can be certain that Abram was not his own grandfather, which would be the only way he could have been “the first Hebrew”

(because EBER was the first Hebrew).

The name EBER (ayin-beth-resh) is taken from a verb meaning “passing”.

Words are archaeological fossils which can open up deeper meanings to us than dusty bones, clothing, clay pots, or stone walls.  The term “IBRI” developed from EBER, and over time became “Hebrew” – Habiru is an Egyptian form.  Abram (Abu Ramu, exalted father) was a descendant of Eber (Gen. 14:13), and probably met him.  Shem was still alive during Abram’s early life as well.  Signposts are all around the Earth today which are based on Eber’s name.  The Iber river, the ancient names of England (Hibernia) and Spain (Iberia), and the literal meaning of the German word “UBER” (above, over) all relate directly to the people and culture that sprang from a man we hardly ever discuss.  Where did the “early” Israelites (a people, not a land) really come from?  The answer Anson suggests in his article “passes through” (EBER) a lot of people and territory;  but I suggest that Israel came from the loins of Abrahim, the exalted “father of many”.  In many places in the past, Israel’s dispersed tribes have taken forms of the name Yitsaq, Abrahim’s son, as we see in the term Sacae.  Abrahim is the source of Anson’s search for the early Israelites, because he fathered many nations  -  as the name given to him reveals to us.

Question:  (show of hands) How many of you have the understanding that you are “born again”?

Yahuah’s “treasure” is His people,

“buried” in the “field” (world),

hidden secretly among the Gentiles.

“For I do not wish you to be ignorant of this secret, brothers, lest you should be wise in your own estimation, that hardening in part has come over Yisrael, until the completeness of the Gentiles has come in.”  Rom 11:25

Alternately, fullness of the Gentiles”.

Pleroma: completion, fill

“Come in” to what?  The Covenant, of course.

Mat 13:34-50  Yahusha said all this to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable,

so that what was spoken by the prophet might be filled, saying, “I shall open My mouth in parables, I shall pour forth what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.”

Then, having sent the crowds away, יהושע went into the house.  And His taught ones came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the darnel of the field.”

And He answering, said to them,

“He who is sowing the good seed is the Son of Aḏam, and the field is the world.

And the good seed, these are the sons of the reign, but the darnel are the sons of the wicked one,

and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. And the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the messengers.

“As the darnel, then, is gathered and burned in the fire, so it shall be at the end of this age.

“The Son of Adam shall send out His messengers, and they shall gather out of His reign all the stumbling-blocks, and those doing lawlessness,

and shall throw them into the furnace of fire – there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

“Then the righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the reign of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

“Again, the reign of the heavens is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man having found it, hid, and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

“Again, the reign of the heavens is like a man, a merchant, seeking fine pearls,

who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

“Again, the reign of the heavens is like a dragnet that was thrown into the sea and gathered some of every kind,

which, when it was filled, they drew to shore. And they sat down and gathered the good into containers, but threw the rotten away.

“Thus shall it be at the end of the age: the messengers shall come forth, and separate the wicked out of the midst of the righteous,

and shall throw them into the furnace of fire – there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Zep 3:14-20 “Shout for joy, O daughter of Tsiyon!  Shout, O Yisrael!  Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Yerushalayim!

Yahuah has turned aside your judgments. He has faced your enemy. The Sovereign of Yisrael, Yahuah, is in your midst.  No longer need you fear evil.

In that day it shall be said to Yerushalayim, “Do not fear, Tsiyon, do not let your hands be weak.

“Yahuah your Elohim in your midst, is mighty to save. He rejoices over you with joy, He is silent in His love, He rejoices over you with singing.”

“I shall gather those who grieve about the appointed place, who are among you, to whom its reproach is a burden.

“See, I am dealing with all those afflicting you at that time. And I shall save the lame, and gather those who were cast out.  And I shall give them for a praise and for a name in all the earth where they were put to shame.

“At that time I shall bring you in, even at the time I gather you, for I shall give you for a name, and for a praise, among all the peoples of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes,” said Yahuah.”

Jer 31:3-10  “ Yahuah appeared to me from afar, saying, ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore I shall draw you with kindness.

I am going to build you again. And you shall be rebuilt, O maiden of Yisrael!  Again you shall take up your tambourines, and go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.

“Again you shall plant vines on the mountains of Shomeron (Samaria). The planters shall plant and treat them as common.

“For there shall be a day when the watchmen (Natsarim) cry on Mount Ephrayim, ‘Arise, and let us go up to Tsiyon, to Yahuah our Elohim.’ ”

For thus said Yahuah, “Sing with gladness for Yaʽaqoḇ, and shout among the chief of the nations. Cry out, give praise, and say, ‘O Yahuah, save Your people, the remnant of Yisrael!’

“See, I am bringing them from the land of the north, and shall gather them from the ends of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labor, together – a great assembly returning here.

“With weeping they shall come, and with their prayers I bring them. I shall make them walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they do not stumble. For I shall be a Father to Yisrael, and Ephrayim – he is My first-born.

“Hear the word of Yahuah, O gentiles, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He who scattered Yisrael gathers him, and shall guard him as a shepherd his flock.’”

Yisrael is in captivity among the nations until the restoration to the Covenant occurs, then the promise will be kept and their redemption will be complete.

*Greek word:  G#3084 Lutro-o (KJV/Strong’s)

(from root G#3089, to loose or free) is translated “redeemed” (1Pe 1:18).

Why “begotten from above” is more accurate:

Greek word:  G#313 (KJV/Strong’s)  anagennao

(from root G#1080 gennao, conceive, beget  -  the active will of a father).

Note:  The Greek term “gennao” is where we get the familiar words

The use of gennao to refer to the BIRTH ITSELF is an abstraction, since gennao refers to the father of whom a child is delivered by a woman.  Examine the Hebrew:

H#3205:  yalad   -  conceive, beget

(purpose:  to show father’s lineage)

Mothers “give birth” (FATHER IS PASSIVE AT THIS POINT)

We are not yet “born”; but we are “begotten” by the Father (Yahuah).  When we are BORN, the whole of creation will be aware of it.  The universe groans in expectation of the “birth” of the children of Yahuah, being in the pains of birth during the tribulation.

The tribulation:  the “labor pains” of our birthing.

born1080 again509  (as translated in KJV)

G#1080:  gennao - to procreate, beget (properly of a father;  only abstractly used to refer to a birth).

G#509:  anothen – from root ano (G#507), from above, upward, on high.

When we will “see Him as He is”,

we will be “born”, or clothed in immortality.

A higher plane that is not limited to the physical dimensions;  the unperceived “spiritual” dimension is what is “above” the physical, tangible cosmos.

Folding space:  “putting on” incorruptible white robes, or linen garments can refer to the passing from the physical realm into the “higher” plane of spiritual existence.  The physical body is metaphorically referred to as “motheaten garments”, because the flesh is corruptible.

(This concept was carried too far by the Gnostics, who regarded being in the flesh as EVIL).

Yisrael (known as “Jacob”, Ya’aqob) loved his son Yosef more than his other sons, the son of his wife Rachel, whom he loved above his other wives.

After explaining to Yosef that his mother died on the way to Bethlehem, Yisrael meets Yosef’s sons for the first time  -  and passed the birth-right of the first-born upon Ephraim:

Gen 48:8-16 “And Yisrael saw Yosef’s sons, and said, ‘Who are these?’

And Yosef said to his father, ‘They are my sons, whom Elohim has given me in this place.’  And he said, ‘Please bring them to me, and let me bless them.’

And the eyes of Yisrael were dim with age, and he was unable to see. And he drew them near him, and he kissed them and embraced them.

And Yisrael said to Yosef, ‘I had not thought to see your face.  But see, Elohim has also shown me your seed!’

So Yosef brought them from between his knees, and he bowed down with his face to the earth.

And Yosef took them both, Ephrayim with his right hand toward Yisrael’s left hand, and Menashsheh with his left hand toward Yisrael’s right hand, and brought them near him.

And Yisrael stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephrayim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Menashsheh’s head, consciously directing his hands, for Menashsheh was the first-born.

And he blessed Yosef, and said, ‘The Elohim before whom my fathers Aḇraham and Yitsḥaq walked, the Elohim who has fed me all my life long to this day,

the Messenger who has redeemed me from all evil – bless the youths!  And let my name be called upon them, and the name of my fathers Aḇraham and Yitsḥaq.  And let them increase to a multitude in the midst of the earth.’”

Eph 3:1-12  “Because of this I, Sha’ul, am the prisoner of Yahusha Messiah on behalf of you gentiles –

if indeed you have heard of the administration of the favor of Elohim that was given to me for you, that by revelation was made known to me the secret, as I wrote before briefly.

In reading this, then, you are able to understand my insight into the secret of Messiah,

which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His set-apart emissaries and prophets:

The Gentiles to be co-heirs, united in the same body (Yisrael), and partakers together in the promise in Messiah through the Good News(Besorah, message), of which I became a servant according to the gift of the favor of Elohim given to me, according to the working of His power.

To me, the very least of all the set-apart ones, this favor was given, to bring the Good News of the unsearchable riches of Messiah among the gentiles, and to make all see how this secret is administered, which for ages past has been hidden in Elohim who created all through Yahusha Messiah, so that now, through the assembly, the many-sided wisdom of Elohim might be known to the principalities and authorities in the heavenlies, according to the everlasting purpose which He made in Messiah Yahusha our Master, in whom we have boldness and access, with reliance, through belief in Him.”

Isa 14:1   “Because Yahuah has compassion on Yaʽaqoḇ, and shall again choose Yisrael, and give them rest in their own land.  And the strangers shall join them, and they shall cling to the house of Ya’aqob.”

Eph 2:1-19 “Therefore remember that you, once gentiles in the flesh, who are called ‘the uncircumcision’ by what is called ‘the circumcision’ made in the flesh by hands,

that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship (or commonwealth) of Yisrael and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world.

But now in Messiah Yahusha you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah.

For He is our peace, who has made both one, and having broken down the partition of the barrier,

having abolished (put away) through His flesh the enmity(hatred, reason for opposition) – the Torah of the commands in dogma – so as to create in Himself one renewed man from the two, thus making peace,

and to completely restore to favor both of them to Elohim in one body through the stake, having destroyed the enmity(hatred, reason for opposition) by it.  And having come, He brought as Good News (the message) peace to you who were far off (from the Covenant), and peace to those near.

Because through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the set-apart ones and members of the household of Elohim.”

The “household of Elohim” is called YISRAEL.

They are “begotten” by Yahuah.

“To the Torah and the Testimony!  If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them.”  YeshaYahu (Is.) 8:20

TORAH is the relationship with Yahuah,

not a religion about Him.

The Covenant /Marriage Contract (BRITH)  Ex 20:1-17

ASERETH HA’DABARIM (10 WORDS)  Yahuah’s Covenant, our wedding vows:

“And Elohim spoke all these Words:

1.  ‘I am Yahuah your Elohim, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

You shall have no other elohim before My face.

2. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the Earth beneath or in the waters below.   You shall not bow down to them or worship them;  for I, Yahuah your Elohim, am a jealous Elohim, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love Me and keep My Commandments.

3. You shall not cast (NASA, send) the Name of Yahuah your Elohim to ruin (SHOAH, destruction), for Yahuah will not hold anyone guiltless who casts His Name to ruin.

4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it qodesh.

Six days you shall labor and do all your work,  but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahuah your Elohim.

On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.  For in six days Yahuah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day.

Therefore Yahuah blessed the Sabbath day and made it qodesh.

5. Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land Yahuah your Elohim is giving you.

6. You shall not murder.

(Two words:  LO RATSACH, NO KILL)

7. You shall not adulterate

8. You shall not steal.

(Two words:  LO GANAB, NO STEAL)

9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

10. You shall not covet your neighbor's house.  You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Jer 3:21 A voice was heard on the bare heights, weeping supplications of the children of Yisrael, because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten Yahuah their Elohim.

Jer 3:23 “Truly, delusion comes from the high hills, the noisy throng on the mountains. Truly, in Yahuah our Elohim is the deliverance of Yisrael.”

Our captivity is why we do not know the exact time of the Sabbatical years, nor the Yobel, or “Jubilee” (YOBEL, trumpet blast).

It concerns the land, and because we are not fully regathered by Yahuah yet to the land,

we know we are in captivity.

Lev 25:1  “And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh on Mount Sinai, saying,

Lev 25:13 ‘In the Year of this Jubilee(YOBEL, trumpet blast) let each one of you return to his possession.

19:1 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:

Salvation and esteem and power belong to our Elohim, for true and just are His judgments.

He has condemned the great prostitute

who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.

He has avenged on her the blood of His servants."

And again they shouted:

The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever."

The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped Elohim, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

"A-man, Hallelujah!"

Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

"Praise our Elohim,

all you His servants, you who fear Him,

both small and great!"

Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

For our Sovereign El Almighty reigns.

Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him esteem!

For the wedding of the Lamb has come,

and His bride has made herself ready.

Fine linen, bright and clean,

was given her to wear."

Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" And he added,

"These are the true words of Elohim."
